The Cranwell Express layout has been progressing over the winter months.
The track work is now fully laid and wired. It has dual analog control inputs allowing us to run passenger trains on one line and goods traffic on the other for added operational and viewing interest. This has been achieved with a considerable amount of isolating and dual-powered switch gear on the control panel. Think of the rewiring scene from the Apollo13 film and you’ll have some idea of the ordeal we inflicted on ourselves with this project.
The painted backscenes are now in place and buildings are being constructed after months of additional research. The trees have arrived and holes have been drilled ready for their placement.
We are currently working on the roadway and hangar buildings.
This layout needs to be finished ready to exhibit at Stamford in May 2026.
