It has been a busy couple of years for our club since our founding mid-2024 and our first Open Evening in August that year.
The clubs aims are simple – make and play with model railways whilst sharing and improving our skills, having fun, providing moral support to each other, providing a creative outlet in a rural community and promoting the hobby. These past two and a half years have seen us get the club established, put on 3 club shows, organise 2 charity shows in support of the LNAA, attend surrounding villages events and exhibit our layouts across the neighbouring counties. That’s pretty good going for a small group that now numbers 16 members.
We’re aware that as people move homes then we may not have come to the attention of new or existing enthusiasts settling into their new community. That is primarily what this Open Evening is about – a chance for those enthusiats who have recently come to the area to come and see what we are about. It is also a chance for those wanting to take up the hobby, but are unsure of which way to go or how to start, to come and get some advice or even just use us as a sounding board for their layout ideas.
The secondary reason for the Open Evening is for our members and supporting partners to take part in an LNAA cheque presentation ceremony following our Charity Model Makers Show on 8th Nov. Even if you aren’t into model trains but want to show support for the LNAA, you’re still welcome to a mince pie and hot drink on us.
What will be on show that evening?
There will be 3 club layouts on display that evening
‘Cranwell’ – a 1:148(N) scale representation of RAF Cranwell’s own railway set in the 1921-27 period
‘Heckington’ – a 1:148(N) scale representation of Heckington station in the mid 1950s (on loan from the Heckington Railway Museum)
‘Shuntingdon’ – a 1:76 scale(OO) interactive shunting puzzle that the public are enouraged to operate
Additionally there will be a selection of members own travelling layouts showcasing what we do beyond the collective club layouts. We’ll be more than happy to show you how they work and let you have a go if you wish.
Please note: Under 16s must be accompanied by an Adult – thank you.
